York Theater.Of all the signs that we maintain, this one is a privilege; the historic York Theatre in downtown Elmhurst, Illinois. Originally designed by noted theatre architect Elmer Behrns, the York Theatre has been a fixture in this suburban Chicago neighborhood for over 60 years. Updated in 1938 by theatre designer Roy Blasé, the Art Deco marquee included such features as reflective stainless steel and a now unheard of porcelain tower. The current marquee includes 1,000 light bulbs throwing light onto the street and onto the theatre’s reflective steel and porcelain tower. With almost 1,000 feet of vibrant neon lighting and open faced channel letters, this is one sign that can’t be replicated.
